(2) Grand Winners from Residential and Commercial Divisions. Winners receive recognition at an Awards Banquet, international media coverage, recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy, and a possible invitation to compete in the Solar Decathlon Build Challenge.
The annual Solar Decathlon Design Challenge spans one or two academic semesters and inspires students to design residential, mixed-use, or commercial building solutions that are evaluated for how well they meet the nation’s demand for energy-efficient, innovative, cost-effective, and resilient buildings. Qualifying teams complete a design project and attend the Solar Decathlon Competition Event in April 2021 at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO, where they present their designs to a panel of industry expert jurors, compare their projects to those of other teams, learn from presentations by thought leaders and collegiate peers, and engage with a variety of organizations about energy careers. Winning teams are recognized at an Awards Banquet, and winning Project Presentations are published on the website. The competition and winners are promoted through a variety of media outreach efforts, which provide participants and their collegiate institutions an opportunity for national exposure. The Solar Decathlon Design Challenge also provides: - A structure for successful project-led learning that can be integrated into a senior design project, capstone program, building science course, design studio, or extracurricular club - Free access to exclusive, online building science education and cutting-edge software and tools to augment classroom learning - Unique career development and networking opportunities through engagement with industry expert jurors, sponsors, and industry partners - Recognition for participating collegiate institutions following their successful participation Read the Rules today and submit your team application by October 20th, 2020 at 5pm EDT! All teams who submit an application will be accepted to participate.
